Teaching Design for

Lesson 2, Module 2, NSE Book 1

I.Teaching Objectives

1. Language Objectives

(1) Let the students master the use of some important words or phrase;

(2) Let the students master the use of some important sentence patterns;

(3) Let the students master the use of some important grammar.

2. Ability Objectives

(1) To improve the students’ reading ability, especially their scanning and skimming skills.

(2) To improve the students’ abilities of studying by themselves and cooperation.

3. Moral Objectives

(1) To strengthen students’ awareness of respecting their teachers.

(2) To build up students’ confidence to communicate with their teachers.

II. Important Points

1. Help students to understand the whole passage.

2. Help students to understand the important words, phrases and sentence patterns, such as first impression, appreciate, as a result, so that, avoid.

III. Difficult Points

1. Help students to understand the meaning of some difficult phrases and sentences, such as dare to, soXXXXXthatXXXXX/suchXXXXXthat.

2. Help students to analyze the main information of each paragraph.

IV. Teaching Methods

1. The main teaching methods include: task-based method; communicative language teaching.

In the teaching procedure, the teacher will put the emphases on the task-based method as well as the communicative language teaching to improve students’ ability of independent thinking and to strengthen their cooperation consciousness.

2. Teaching Aids

A computer and a projector.

V. Learning Methods

1. Participatory learning method. It focuses on training them to learn by practice. Students may enjoy the class if they are allowed to talk about the teachers they like.

2. Cooperative learning method. It focuses on cultivating students’ cooperation consciousness and ability through team work.

VI. Teaching Procedures

Step I Revision

Have a review of the words of this unit to make sure that students can pronounce and spell them right.

Step II Lead-in

1. Show pictures of Halen Keller and Anne Sullivan and let students guess who they are.

2. Ask some students to share the information they know about Anne and Keller.

This part is designed to lead in the topic of this class and to broaden their horizon about these two famous people.

Step III Pre-reading

Skimming

Ask students to skim the whole text quickly and answer the two questions in the pre-reading part. Therefore, students can grasp the general idea of this passage .

Scanning

Students will be given more time to scan the passage and fill the form with correct information about each teacher. This procedure will help them to grasp the important information by using correct analytical methods.

Careful reading

Here students will be asked to read the passage carefully, and find some difficult points. I will explain the difficult points for them, such as “soXXXXXthat” and “suchXXXXXthat”. This step is the most important one because I will point out some difficult words and phrases for them to enhance their understanding of the whole text.

Step IV Discussion and Retelling

Ask students to discuss with their partner how to retell the whole text by using the words and expressions they have learned in this class.

Step V Homework

After studying the text, students are required to finish the exercises on page 13 to strengthen their memory of what they have learned in this class.

VII. Blackboard Design

Some important words and phrases will be written on the blackboard.
