Module 1 Unit 2 English Around the World--vocabulary study
Teaching plan
analysis of the students
They have just entered senior high school, so they are in a relatively hard transition period. Most of them find it difficult to learn English well because of the difference in English learning methods, teachers’ teaching approaches and so on between junior and senior middle school. More importantly, their vocabulary is not rich enough, which frustrates them and decrease their interest in English. Therefore, in this class I will introduce some interesting and useful ways to help them overcome the difficulty and stimulate their interest.
analysis of teaching methods
1 Task-based language teaching
Each student is given a self learning paper to preview the lesson and finish the exercises on it.
2 Visual teaching method
In order to make them master the meaning of the word, express ,using an item.
3 Micro class teaching
To make them have a better understanding of how to make use of imagination to make connection
and master new words.
4.Cooperative Learning Approach A discussion will be held to stimulate the enthusiasm of students.
analysis of the learning materials
This lesson is taken from New Senior English for China Student’s Book 1,published by People’s Education Press. This class mainly deals with vocabulary teaching. As British linguist David Wilkin ever put, without grammar very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed. So vocabulary learning plays a very important part in English learning, which is usually most students’ weak point. So in this class , I will teach students some tips of learning new words, which I personally think is interesting and of great help to them.
Teaching procedures:
Step1 Lead in:
In this part ,I first ask students “ What’s your biggest problem in English learning”, most of them may say vocabulary. Then I say “ What a pity! Key point in English learning is your weak point.” Next , I will check if their vocabulary is rich enough, by asking if they know the following 3 words, if not , I will ask them if they have seen the following two signs. Then I will tell them that they can learn English words form the items they use or see in daily life. Next ,I will ask if they would like to know other interesting ways to learn English words,. Thus their interest in this class is stimulated.
Design purpose:
By quoting a famous British linguist David Wilkins’s saying and asking if they know the following three words on the common signs, I want to make students know the importance of learning vocabulary and teach them a tip of memorizing new words.

Learning tips:
1 We can enrich our vocabulary through word-building, that is to say, we can add prefix or postfix to a certain word. Then we learn a new word.
The property and meaning of a certain word and can be more than one, which we should pay special attention to.
3 The different meanings of a word may have something to do with one another, and then we can make use of our imagination to connect and master them. (read about by yourself)

To make students learn some new words and tips of learning new words in an interesting way.

Exercise 1 Act it out with your partner in front of the classroom after error correction

I achieve all the goals of the lesson and students work well during the whole lesson. I believe they could learn some useful things in the lesson. But some students may be a little shy and unconfident. I should give them more chance to speak and encourage them to speak in the future work.
