In the movie, a lot of cellphones were stolen by “Liu Dehua”. We all know that a thief would run away very quickly and then hide in a secret place as soon as he or she steals a cellphone. In the past, he or she couldn’t be found. But nowadays, one of the new technologies can be used to find the lost cellphones easily. Is it amazing? OK, let’s read the passage and think about the question: Why could the lost cellphones be found easily now?

What is GPS? Global?Positioning?System

GPS即全球定位系统(Global?Positioning?System)，简单地说，这是一个由覆盖全球的24颗卫星组成的卫星系统。这个系统可以保证在任意时刻，地球上任意一点都可以同时观测到4颗卫星，该观测点可以通过接收到的信号

GPS is like a man-made star. We can use it at any time, in any place and in any weather to find out our position. The early explorers found that the stars in the sky were good guiding marks to know where they were and in which direction they were going. This method worked well at night as long as the weather was good. But it didn’t

work so well during the rest of the time.
