一、教学内容分析



Analysis of the position of the lesson:

This lesson is the third item of unit5 in New Senior English Ss’Book 3, which is on reading. It will take two periods to finish the passage. This lesson is the first period of the two. As we all know, reading is the one of the skills that the students should master. Reading is a very important part in NMET. Reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. So this lesson plays an important part in the English teaching in this unit.



二、教学目标



Teaching aims:

According the new standard curriculum and the syllabus , I think the teaching aims are the following:

a、get the students to know about the general local conditions and customs of Canada

b、train the students’ reading skills and ability by using the words and expressions

c、improve the students’ oral English by cooperative learning



三、学习者特征分析



Something about the students:

1、Students are lack of geographic knowledge and the cultural background of other countries.

2、As for the learning strategies, they are poor in cooperative learning skills.

3、Some students are not active in the class, and some students don’t like speaking English.



四、教学过程



Step 1 Lead-in (2mins)

Teacher: The summer vacation is coming. I want to go to abroad.

I want to go to Canada. Can you say something about Canada?

Show some pictures of beautiful places to arouse the students’ interest. Try to encourage them to say something about Canada.

Step 2 Fast-reading (12mins)

A、Play the tape of of national Song of Canada for the students to listen and understand what is “ the true north”.

【Purpose】Play the tape of National Flag to introduce Canada into the topic.

B、Scan the passage and match the main idea of each paragraph.

Para 1 What they saw on the trip in Canada

Para 2 The girls are on the trip in Canada

Para 3—5 Danny Lin’s brief introduction to Vancouver

【Purpose】:Scanning is a kind of skill to train Ss to get important points.

C、Draw the route of the travel in Canada and make marks on the map on Page 33.

Step 3 Careful reading (12mins)

Give the students some time to do careful reading, and then give some detailed information .

【Purpose】: It’s important to train Ss’ reading comprehension. So teacher’s guide can help them improve the skills. In the process of it ,Ss can develop their reading ability step by step.

Step 4 Retelling (6mins)

Retell the main content of the passage.

Li Daiyu and Liu Qian went on a trip to Canada from _____ to _____ . Their cousins’ friend, Danny Lin, took them to the train station to catch “____ _____ ______” . Canada is the ________ biggest country in the world. It is 5,500 kilometers from ______ to _______. As they go ________, they saw beautiful scenery as well as cities. Vancouver is ___________ by mountains on the north and east. When the cousins ________ _______ in the seats, they looked out of the window. They saw mountain goats and even a _______ bear. Calgary is famous for its competition. Many of the cowboys from all over North America _____ ___ ___ ____ riding wild horses. Then they ______ _______ a wheat-growing province. 【Purpose】Give Ss some link words to combine the passage to turn input into output.

Step 5 Pair-work (6mins)

Choose the situation to make up a dialogue.

Situation:

The summer holiday is coming. Your family plans to go on a holiday but has not decided the destination. Persuade your parents to go to Canada.

Step 6 Summary (2mins)

Well, let’s come back from Canada to see what we’ve learnt in this class, we’ve learnt about some foreign countries’ culture and scenery by reading the text.

Step 7 Homework:

1、Know more about Canada by reading geographic books.

2、Suppose you are a guide of a tourism agency, introduce Canada to the visitors from all over the world.

八、教学反思



这是一节公开课,学生积极踊跃,课堂气氛活跃,学生通过小组合作学习达到了既定的目标。最后的表演展示环节,学生能用上本节课说到的一些有关Canada的知识,能用英语流利地表达出来。

需要改进:retelling 环节用时过多,超时5分钟。对于学生预判不足,还需要对于备学生这个环节下功夫。
