one young boy shouted that

1.Nobody wanted to sound stupid. 没有人想让人听起来觉得很愚蠢。
(1)stupid是形容词，意为“愚蠢的”， 在句中可用
作定语,也可用作表语。
如：The stupid conductor put me off at the
wrong stop.
那个愚蠢的售票员让我下错了站。

2. The emperor had to give them silk and gold,but they kept everything for themselves.
(1)silk是名词，意为“丝绸；丝绸物”， silk表示不同种类的丝绸时可用于复数形式,作主语时其谓语动词也应是复数形式。
如：Angela is modelling an attractive blue silk dress. 安吉拉做时装模特儿向顾客展示一种漂亮的蓝色丝绸服装。
She has a scarf made of a triangular piece of blue silk. 她有一条用三角形蓝绸子做的围巾。

（2）gold是不可数名词,意为“金子,黄金”, gold作形容词，意为“金色的”，既可作定语也可作表语,没有比较级和最高级。
如：For over 100 years, men have sought for gold in the hills.
一百多年以来人们一直在山中寻找黄金。
The gold watchband is thin but heavy.
这条金色的表带薄薄的，但是很重。
3. They were trying to cheat the emperor.
(1)cheat是动词，意为“欺骗；蒙骗”,是及物动词,其宾语总是人,后可接of sth 或into sth/ v-ing 表示被骗去的东西或骗某人做某事，可用于被动结构；常用于短语cheat sb into doing sth指用欺骗的手段使某人上当而做某事。
如: He cheated her into marrying his son.
他欺骗她,使她嫁给了他的儿子。
