Asimov is a famous writer who is well-known for his science fictions. This passage introduces his life, writing experience and achievements in detail. Since we’ve learned one of his stories in the first reading, students may be interested in his biography.

To learn and master the following words and phrases: biography; junior; talent; full-time; divorce; take... seriously; have a talent for...; as a result of...
To get a general idea about Asimov’s life, education and achievements.
Ability Aims:
1. To get the main idea of each paragraph by finding the topic sentence.
2. To get the detailed information quickly by scanning the key words.
Emotion Aims:
1. To encourage students to learn from Asimov.
2. To establish students’ spirits of cooperation.

Important points:
1. To get the main idea of each paragraph by finding the topic sentence.
2. To master the usage of some important words, phrases and sentence patterns.
Difficult points: To get the detailed information quickly by scanning the key words.

Step 1 Revision & Lead in
Ask students to retell the first reading(a story written by Asimov). And then ,they are asked to introduce the author briefly.(supported by the multi-media)
Step 2 Fast Reading
Ask students to scan the passage to get main idea of each paragraph
Step 3 Careful Reading
Ask students to read along with the tape.
Discuss with their deskmates to finish the table on P17.
Step 4 language Points
Ask students to find the English expressions of some phrases shown on PPT.
Explain to students some new words and sentence structure.
Step 5 Homework
Retell the story,
Introduce the author briefly
Read the first and last sentence of each paragraph.
Finish the task
1.Read the passage while listening to the tape .
2.Discuss with their deskmates to finish the table on P17.
1. To find some important phrases
2. To make sentences with these phrases.
Write a brief introduction of Asimov using the expressions they’ve learnt.
